Chevrolet AMP Electric Equinox

AMP’s all-electric conversion of the Chevrolet Equinox was on hand at the New York Auto Show, and we got the chance to squeal the tires just a little bit while we were in town. We can’t give a full report on how the CUV drives – the indoor track was a whole 500 or so feet long – but we can say that the Equinox, like AMP’s first conversion, the Saturn Sky, has a lot of potential for people looking for an all-electric vehicle. AMP doesn’t have everything totally figured out quite yet, but the company’s strategy to leverage the work General Motors did in developing the Equinox into an affordable electric vehicle (EV) is on the right track.

Like with the Sky, the Equinox’s electric motors are quite loud. Thankfully, they’re also quite powerful, as we found out on the short straightaway on the EV Pavilion at the show. These are motors from Remy International, which AMP also uses in the Sky. AMP president Steve Burns has called the Remy’s HVH250TM electric motors, “simply the best on the market today.” When used in the Equinox, where AMP spent some time evenly balancing the weight of the all-electric powertrain, the motors add to the vehicle’s solid driving feel, and we imagine taking the CUV for a real drive would be quite pleasurable. We’ll have to wait and see if this is true.

The AMP’d Equinox will be available this summer fro $50,000 (after government incentives). The CUV has a range of up to 150 miles per charge and a top speed of 90 miles per hour. It can hit 60 mph in about eight seconds, AMP says, and we look forward to trying this for ourselves some day.

CEO of Kepler Motors Unveils Motion, the Future Gen Car

Russ Wicks, founder and CEO of Kepler Motors has unveiled a cool new super car that seems to be mind blowing. While it is a les known company, that does not make it any less cooler than the ones by big companies such as Ferrari or Audi. It was launched at the Dubai International Motor Show and it comes with a cool carbon fibre body.

It also has an active suspension and aerodynamics, and a seven-speed sequential transaxle. Ford 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 has been modified and it is a hybrid vehicle that can reach amazing speeds. Most insiders are sceptical about the car as it is a company that is not known much. If the car is released and it is a onetime wonder, you might even have to worry about the spare parts.

However, the car certainly looks cool and has been christened Motion. Motion is one helluva car that I would certainly try to buy if the money is there in the bank. It is expected to be available in 2011 and let us just hope it is not too costly! If you know anything at all about the car, do feel free to let us know and tell us more about it!

Google Nexus One: The Prodigy Of Smart Phones

Just a few hours from now, the world will come face to face with perhaps the most secretly guarded smart phone, we have ever come across. That’s right, Google Inc. will be officially launching its very own home made smart phone, Nexus One. Ever since the rumors surface on the internet regarding Nexus One, there had been a flurry of denials and occasional teasers from Google. But the question that now stands is that, how much useful of a gadget will the Nexus One prove to be?
As per the current estimates, the most enticing feature of Nexus One is the 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, that when confirmed would prove to be extremely beneficial for the users, as all the heavy work done via the phone would become a breeze. Among other things, the user interface of the device is splendid and very catch and it feature live wallpapers, that the phone is equipped with animated wallpapers. The Nexus One, although belongs entirely to Google, the handset itself has been manufactured by HTC and its believed to have a 3.7-inch display, with nearly 32 GB of space and a 5 MP camera with LED flash, along with 512 RAM.
Now, the Nexus One unlike other handsets in the U.S will be available to the consumers in two modes, and the device can be purchased directly from Google, regardless of the option exercised by the consumer. Google has selected T-Mobile as the preferred wireless carrier for its smart phone and the Nexus One can be purchased at subsidized rate of $180 with a two year mandatory contract from T-Mobile, that would entail an $80 per month plan, inclusive of calls, text messages and data usage. The second option, which though is a bit costlier than the previous one is that, users can buy the Nexus One directly from Google, completely unlocked and without pre-arranged contract. The only downside of this option is that, without the subsidy, the price of the phone soars upto $530.

Iranian Security Forces Kill 4 Protestors

Iran on Sunday witnessed one of the biggest and fiercest clashes between the citizens and the Iranian security forces, leaving four demonstrators dead, including Ali Mousavi, the nephew of the opposition leader, Mir Hossein Mousavi. The demonstrations that rocked the streets of Tehran were some of the most violent since the post election violence that shook the nation after the disputed Presidential election conducted in the month of July this year.
The web sites run by the reformists in the country along with Mr. Mousavi’s own website confirmed the demise of his nephew and was later confirmed by a close aide to Mir Hossein Mousavi, broke the news on the basis of anonymity. An amateur video footage was also released that clearly showed the angry mob of protesters hurling stones at the security forces and setting the police and authority vehicles on fire.
The protests were part of an anti-government movement that has caught a lot of domestic and international attention, especially after the post election violence of July and the movement has witnessed a surge in terms of followers who are now disgruntled with the current Iranian regime headed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The mob that took to the streets, chanted, “Death to the dictator” and carried out demonstrations, inspite of the warnings given out by the authorities.

Does Sandra Bullock Fear for her Life?

New reports have surfaced which claim that Sandra Bullock has been delaying her divorce due to the fact that her cheating husband Jesse James may turn violent after he hears the news.

Sources claim that he exhibited abusive behavior earlier in their marriage. It’s not surprising that Sandra is surrounded with armed body guards round the clock after she decided to divorce him.
Her security guards would go to any lengths to keep Jesse James away from her. She may even issue a legal restraining order against him if need be. Insiders say that she fears that he would kill her first and then kill himself. Sources say that she hasn’t been sleeping well for couple of days now.

Yesterday, there were claims that Sandra has been delaying the divorce because Jesse James has sex tapes of her. However, she spoke up for the first time in the last two weeks and totally denied that story.
Jesse James who had quit the rehab center for sex addiction has now rejoined it. Insiders have dropped this news that Sandra Bullock and Jesse James are in touch indirectly through a mediator.

ESPN marks Tiger's tee shot with live coverage

Tiger Woods' first tee shot from the Masters was considered important enough by ESPN to use an onscreen countdown clock to mark the seconds before his first swing.

But the network's announcers referred only obliquely to the sex scandal that made it such an event. They never used the words "sex" or "infidelity," with announcer Mike Tirico telling viewers that "I think you know the timeline" of Woods' hiatus from golf.

The network noted how in most tournaments the final shot on Sunday is considered the most important, but in this case, it was Woods' first shot on Thursday that overshadowed everything.

Nike's commercial with Woods' late father talking as his son's unsmiling face looks into the camera was aired 15 minutes before the first shot, then again shortly after.
